February 24th, 2026, this year marked the 12th year of my career. Why keep going or try something new? For some that’s not a long time only the length of grade school. For others that’s decent. It’s been a steady enough income to support my needs and provide for my family. I’ll with hold the company name for the time being.
In May of 2023, I started a different position. I’d left the production floor having been a team leader for about a year and a half. I’d learn how to do workshops for continuous improvements, kaizen activities, 5S, 4L and a few other “lean” manufacturing aspects. I lead in my team lead position 14 workshops and over 100 kaizen implementations. The results varied depending on the focus of the improvement. Eliminated around 480 minutes of downtime a month for a repeat issue. Saved average $1,300 per year on 1 line in savings (not to mention the compounded savings). Reduced average weekly downtime by ~1,000 minutes on another line. Reduced scrap, improved cycle times, saved cost and much more.
Now before you think I’m just another lean leader going to go into what and how you should do something this isn’t that. It’s not a how to be a top tier leader. I’m curious to see if the skills I developed can benefit others how I used them to benefit my production team. I’m no longer a team lead but what I did was the best time of my career seeing the difference it made.
I’d like to help you if I can. I enjoy championing people growing in their organizations, and generating ideas for improvements! If you are stuck with an idea but not sure what to do next. Are you thinking of going from an operator or similar position into more of a leadership position or even stepping up without the title? Bounce your ideas off someone real! Learned a few things and would like to share.
Why do this? Cause I find enjoyment in it!
Why should you? I’m aiming to change corporations from the inside, where people still make the biggest difference, even in the face of AI, It’s not going to replace everyone, like I said in the last newsletter, it’s a tool!
I don’t know your position or goals. I think I can help you if anything be a source of encouragement on your journey.
Next time what changed my mindset and why.
